Prime Stars and SADC Women in Business
African Women in Busines South Africa partnered with Prime Stars, Dynamic DNA and other stakeholders to form a national drive initiative challenging all members of society to play a part in #SavingTheClassOf2020 by providing financial and in-kind support to enable the organisers to accommodate more learners in need. The disruptions to the academic year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic was devastating, and as a result of South Africa’s socio-economic challenges, the majority of Grade 12 learners in under-resourced public schools missed out on almost half of their curriculum, because they did not have the wherewithal to access online learning during lockdown. Whilst Basic Education Department of South Africa urged parents to send their learners back to school, the demand from schools to participate in the #SavingTheClassOf2020 revision sessions remained overwhelming nationwide. Further, schools that could not be accommodated, due to limited programme funds, join a waiting list of over 500 schools nationwide, hoping to be accommodated.
Prime Stars and Youth Start, with the support of their sponsors, launched new platforms to extend the reach and accessibility of the sought after #SavingTheClassOf2020 revision content, using cinemas to assist leaners access the required content.
